One of the things I've found is that the good-doers, the kids that are self-sufficient and grow well, can easily be overlooked. I don't mean they suffer neglect, but simply that as they don't need human intervention to ensure they thrive, they get far less attention.

It's convenient and effective to let the strong kids suckle from mum and have her look after their needs rather than bottle-feed. This leads to them being not as tame as the needy kids and makes it more difficult to keep an eye on them when it comes to husbandry.
